Throughout the year that has just ended, marked by the devastating effects of the pandemic, we have experienced many changes that have limited our way of living and sharing. We have had to distance ourselves from our family and friends. The daily life of the Church and our liturgical celebrations, meetings, ministries, catechesis, etc., have been greatly affected. It is clear that preserving the safety and health of each of the members of our parish family, especially the most vulnerable, is the most valuable, and this implies sacrifice.
We know that these sacrifices are acts of charity (keeping our distance, wearing a mask, limiting attendance to the Holy Eucharist, avoiding giving communion in the mouth, etc.). These sacrifices also inspire us to seek new ways of relating to each other, living together even in the midst of physical distancing. Many of us understood how much we need a hug and the closeness of those we love. At the same time, we have discovered the value of spiritual closeness that is equally necessary and important.
I understand that some people are reluctant to accept or believe what is happening, and although they have many reasons, they have made an admirable effort to walk with us in a sincere testimony of empathy and respect.
I see the future reencounter with hope, the awakening of our postponed projects. I can foresee new challenges that encourage us to continue day by day. I wish to share with each one of you, members of the family of St. Andrew’s parish and those who visit us, in the encounter with the Lord in the Eucharist, in social gatherings and the activities of our parish mission.
May God take care of each one of you, strengthen those who have been affected by the pandemic and by the events of this historic moment. God guide us so that we know how to comfort those who lost a loved one, and that we spiritually and materially support those experiencing financial difficulties. May the love of God and others nourish the virtues of faith, hope, and charity in each of, the disciples of the Lord Jesus.
Under thy protection we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God.
